Director M. Night Shyamalan’s Universal era appears to be ending on a bit of a downer. His latest film, the apocalyptic thriller Knock at the Cabin, added $2.5 million globally this weekend, for a running worldwide haul of $52 million as it nears the end of its theatrical release (the film is already available on PVOD). This is a significantly lower than every film that he has made after his career resurgence nearly a decade ago.
Knock at the Cabin has made $18.1 million in overseas markets, and nearly $34 million domestically. The film was produced on a reported budget of $20 million, which should put it in the black. According to Universal, Knock at the Cabin is pacing slightly behind two other Shyamalan thrillers — The Visit and Old — at the same point in their runs. Neither of those movies managed to crack $100 million globally. But Knock at the Cabin has overtaken The Visit in the U.K. where its running gross now stands at $3.6 million. Released worldwide earlier this month, the film has made $1.7 million in France, $1.4 million in Spain, and $1 million in Germany.
In Knock at the Cabin, based on the novel by Paul G. Tremblay, four mysterious strangers show up at a log cabin, where they take a gay couple and their daughter hostage. The four strangers claim that the world is about to end, but all of humanity can be saved if the couple makes the impossible choice to kill one among them. The film sees Shyamalan combining elements of home invasion thrillers with his favorite theme: faith.
The countdown is officially on until lightning strikes again in DC Comics' upcoming superhero epic Shazam! Fury of the Gods. The mystical sequel, helmed by David F. Sandberg, is set to see Zachary Levi return as the titular hero come adult version of Billy Batson alongside his foster family. The action-packed film is slated to pick up with Billy having shared his precious gifts with his foster siblings leaving them to not only navigate teenage woes but also the weight of the world literally. Billy and his newly found Shazam Family will be confronted with a new threat when daughters of Atlas Hespera (Helen Mirren), Anthea (Rachel Zegler) and Kalypso (Lucy Liu) set their sights on taking back the powers they believe the Shazam Family stole from their father. In a new behind-the-scenes clip, Levi and Ross Butler, who plays the adult superhero half to Eugene Choi, are seen embracing the magical messiness of the film.
The snippet spotlights Butler dressed in his lightning-bolt-emblazoned suit whilst relishing reuniting with his on-screen superhero siblings. It's clear the signature humor featured in the Shazam! franchise carries through behind the scenes with Butler and the adult superheroes bouncing around energetically in between takes. “Coming back is feeling like a family reunion," he says in the video. "We have these moments where we’re just sitting around joking and then we’ll be fighting dragons.” In a seamless nod to the latter, the clip then cuts to a scene from the film where a terrifying dragon with glowing blue eyes emerges into the frame. Clearly, in awe of the not-so-mythical creature, Eugene declares: "I am suddenly here for this.” To which Levi's superhero counterpart explains: “'Cos, on one hand, it's totally terrifying on the other hand ‘DRAGON!’”
The video is a perfect presentation of the juvenility that inevitably comes with teenagers having superpowers. It also falls in line with the fresh learning experience set to take center stage for the Shazamily, which will see them have to learn to work cohesively to take down their enemies. Previously, director Sandberg told Collider how the movie "is sort of about them having to learn to work together and be a superhero team" rather than continue to do "their own thing."

The new Pop! figure is an exclusive variant and features Wanda Maximoff's dark costume from the 'Doctor Strange' sequel.
Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Scarlet Witch, as well as Funko Pop collectors alike, can soon expand their vinyl collection as the Scarlet Witch Vinyl Figure—described as an "Ultimate Mom"—is now available for purchase via FUN.com. Inspired by the 2022 MCU feature, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the new Pop! figure showcases Wanda in her Multiverse of Madness suit, complete with a glow-in-the-dark feature.
Wanda Maximoff, better known as Scarlet Witch, is many things: she is one of the most powerful mutants, a brother to Pietro Maximoff, a lover to Vision, and a mother in a different multiverse. She'll do anything, even crossing the darker path (particularly dark magic), just so she can be with her different version's children. The new Pop! figure release is inspired by Wanda's outfit, where she was at her most vulnerable (and definitely her darkest yet), wearing a sleeve wrapped around her thumbs and a crown, which is darker than her fits in previous MCU outings. The new FUN.com exclusive features a variant of the outfit she wore while she was fighting to be with her two children in a different multiverse. The figure comes with a glow-in-the-dark feature, which is fitting with Wanda's dark nature.
The newest Scarlet Witch Pop! figure is just an addition to this year's slew of recently released Marvel Studios-inspired Funkos, including Captain America: Civil War Build-A-Scene (featuring Scarlet Witch, Black Widow, and Black Panther), Charlie Cox's Daredevil Cameo, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Avengers: Endgame's Thor, Spider-Man: No Way Home's Sandman and Electro, and most recently, a terrifying Multiverse of Madness' Wanda Maximoff. And with a number of expected Marvel Studios outings this year, fans can expect more Funko Pops coming their way.
The film will be in the vein of the 'Fast & Furious' franchise.
With the rise of motorsports in recent years, from the perennially popular Fast & Furious franchise to Netflix's popular series Formula 1: Drive to Survive, it seems like the perfect time to capitalize on the sport. And James Leon's 8th Gear Entertainment and Ted Field's Radar Pictures are doing just that. Field is perhaps best known for his work on the classic 1990s film Jumanji. They have partnered with FIA ABB Formula E, the official electric racing championship circuit to create a new fast-paced, female-centered racing-action thriller to be called Breakneck.
The film will be in the vein of the beloved Fast & Furious franchise, and will be fully backed by FIA ABB Formula E. However, unlike the Fast & Furious franchise, the film will focus on a group of women, a strong shift in a usually male-dominated genre. Jim Byrkit is set to direct the film from a script written by Nick Kocher.
Of the new film, producer Leon said, “With ‘Breakneck’ we are laying the foundation for a film franchise at a time of rapid ascension and fan adoption for Formula E." The plan, it seems, is to not only create another racing film, but to introduce an entirely new audience to Formula E racing. He continued, saying that "[a]s the league expands and the sport grows in popularity around the world, our movies will add crossover appeal into a mainstream entertainment lane where winning comes as a result of fresh storytelling, memorable performances and flawless execution.”
The movie follows a CIA cryptographer on a quest for vengeance.
Director James Hawes is staying busy, as he has just landed his next major project. Coming off the success of Apple TV's Slow Horses, Hawes is confirmed to helm feature film Amateur for 20th Century Studios, with Rami Malek attached to star. The project is still in the early development stages, with the latest screenplay draft written by Gary Spinelli. Malek executive produces, with Hutch Parker and Dan Wilson producing.
The film is set to follow a CIA cryptographer reeling in the aftermath of his wife's death due a terrorist attack in London. As such, he tries to demand that his bosses jump on the case, but conflicting internal priorities stop them from acting. So, the cryptographer instead decides to blackmail the agency into training him so that he can pursue the terrorists himself. There's been no solid confirmation yet, but with Malek leading, it's likely viewers can expect to see him as the cryptographer.
While Malek has starred in a variety of projects, he's perhaps best known for his role as Freddie Mercury in 2018's Bohemian Rhapsody. The biopic focused on the formation and rising success of rock band Queen and lead singer Mercury. The film was nominated for five Oscars and brought home four -- including a Best Actor win for Malek. Prior to this, Malek is well-known for leading USA's four-season series Mr. Robot as Elliot Alderson. In recent years, he played Bond villain Safin in No Time to Die, starred opposite Denzel Washington in crime drama The Little Things, and appeared in the star-studded cast of Amsterdam. Along with Amateur, his other upcoming projects include a Buster Keaton biopic and Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer.
Brian Taylor will direct the reboot, currently with the working title 'Hellboy: The Crooked Man.'
After crashing and burning with the David Harbour-led reboot back in 2019, Hellboy is getting another chance to redeem itself: a new live-action film based on the demonic superhero is already written at Millennium Media with Brian Taylor set to direct. Progress is said to be well along on the reboot with filming set to begin in Bulgaria in April.
Chances of a new Hellboy anytime soon seemed grim after the Harbour film from Neil Marshall didn't resonate with audiences and scored only $55.1 million globally. Before that, though, Guillermo del Toro turned the demon into a household name. Originally a Dark Horse Comics character created by Mike Mignola, he burst onto the scene back in 2004 with a beloved flick written and helmed by del Toro with Ron Perlman pulling an iconic turn as the hell-beast hero. Thanks to the director's touch creating some impressive visuals and Perlman delivering a performance that was joyful, witty, and most importantly, endearing, it earned a sequel, Hellboy II: The Golden Army in 2008 that only carried the character to greater heights in an even more fantastical setting. For years, Perlman and del Toro tried to get together on a third film with the former even telling The Independent he'd still do it at the ripe old age of 71 for the fans, though it never seemed to be in the cards.
Millennium's new take on Hellboy is expected to be another reboot meaning a new actor will take control of the titular hero. Sources also add that the film is currently going under the working title Hellboy: The Crooked Man which implies that the plot could follow the three-issue miniseries of the same name, though there's no confirmation of that. With only two months until filming, more news on the cast and other details is expected very soon as the film fills out its roster. Hellboy's also not the only franchise Millennium is revisiting at the moment as it's currently working on a remake of Red Sonja which is in production in the same location Hellboy will film. Millennium also has no distributor for the film yet, though Discussing Film notes a streaming service could be in play given how stock in the franchise has fallen since 2019.
If you’re obsessed with You, there’s a good chance you’ve already binge-watched the first five episodes of Season 4. Netflix knows you’re just eager for more, but while we wait for March 9, the streamer released a trailer for You Season 4 Part 2. In the remaining episodes, Joe (Penn Badgley) will continue in Europe avoiding his past. However, he’ll quickly discover that, at this point in his "career," there's no escaping trouble.
The trailer for You Season 4 Part 2 plays up the rivalry between Joe and Rhys (Ed Speleers), who insists to Joe he’s just looking for a friend. As we know all too well, nobody is who they say they are in the thriller series, and Rhys is no exception. At the same time, the trailer makes it clear that Rhys will be a fun nemesis to Joe, since he apparently does whatever he wants and chooses to dab in cynicism in every sentence he utters. In an interview with Collider's own Maggie Lovitt earlier this month, Speleers teased that Rhys is like a devil on Joe's shoulder—and the new trailer makes that very evident.
Season 4 Part 2 Sees Joe in Full Denial Mode
Also, what seems to be fun about Season 4 Part 2 is Rhys will push that Joe to his breaking point, but he’ll be forced to take a look at himself and acknowledge what he sees. It'll clearly be a hard experience for him, since Joe goes into full denial mode and has the guts to state that he’s “not some cold-blooded psycho.” Sure, Joe. Whatever helps you sleep at night.
The Future of Joe Is in the Hands of Netflix
At the same time, we can’t forget that Season 4 is putting together a redemption arc of sorts for Joe, since he tried to start a new and quiet life, and ended up becoming a detective who’s out to stop the “Eat the Rich killer.” We also have to keep in mind that Joe’s story may be far from over and there's a chance he'll have even more life-changing experiences, since its showrunner Sera Gamble has already revealed she has plans for Season 5—Netflix is yet to announce whether the series is renewed.
You is inspired by the best-selling novel series from author Caroline Kepnes. The series is adapted for television by Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble. Aside from Badgley and Speleers, the cast also features Tati Gabrielle, Charlotte Ritchie, Lukas Gage, Tilly Keeper, Amy-Leigh Hickman, Niccy Lin, Aidan Cheng, Brad Alexander, Ozioma Whenu, and Eve Austin.
